Last week I spoke a bit about the longevity mindset needed to master your health, fitness, and general goals. This week I would like to talk about something equally as important on the path to personal success. The importance of starting when you're inspired to.
How many times has an inspired or useful thought come into your head only to be swallowed up by the sands of time? Far too often for most. This is one of many reasons why you need to strike while the iron is hot. If you decide to start your fitness quest on a Wednesday you should not wait till Monday in order to start your healthy eating habits and fitness routine. Start right then and there! Delaying your journey is a lot like bracing yourself for a punch in the face. You're already anticipating an arduous task. This immediately sets your mind up for failure because your mindset is less than positive about your goals and the steps that are needed in order to achieve them. Think about this, Which team is more likely to win the game, the team that believes it can win or the team that believes it can't? "Whether you think you can or you think you can not, You're right" - Henry Ford When it comes to achieving something, there is always something we can do, no matter where we are, what we are doing or the goal at hand. For example, in regards to health, we can always make better food choices at our next meal, go for a walk or get on the floor and do some crunches. As I said last week, it is many small things that we need to do correctly and not one giant one to achieve our goals. Those who put off their healthy lifestyle changes until the stars, moon and sun are aligned are also falling into the perfectionists pitfall where the mentality is all or nothing. This often means that if you don't drink enough water for a day or your husband buys the wrong tuna you immediately cancel your fitness quest until next Monday, when by your standards the circumstances are perfect again. The best way to conquer this is to take action when you are inspired to do so, when the goal is still a burning desire. Do not wait until the thought has become a lingering notion that has been bounced off a mindset of doubt and the disappointment of prior failures. Start right now!!!
